Epidemiological characteristics of human bocavirus among hospitalized children with acute respiratory infections in Hainan from 2021 to 2023

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of human bocavirus(HBoV)infections among hospi-talized children in Hainan from 2021 to 2023,and to analyze infection rates,demographic susceptibility(age and sex),annual and seasonal prevalence,instances of mono-and co-infections,clinical manifestations,and associated risk factors to provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of HBoV.Methods:Samples were collected from hospitalized pediatric patients at Hainan Women and Children's Medical Center between January 2021 and December 2023.Detection of the Bocavirus by respiratory patho-gen-targeted high-throughput sequencing(tNGS)technology.Statistical analysis was used to study the prevalence of HBoV infec-tion and seasonal variations,and to analyze the main symptoms of infected children and their relationship with age and genderin conjunction with clinical data.Results:Out of 19 339 samples,583 were positive for HBoV,resulting in an overall detection rate of 3.01%.HBoV infections predominantly occurred in the spring and autumn,with infection peaks in March and October,mean-while,non-pharmacological interventions had no significant effect on HBoV prevalence trends.The primary clinical symptoms in-cluded fever,cough,and nasal congestion,with severe respiratory complications observed in a minority of cases.Children aged 0-5 years had the highest infection rates,with a slight male predominance.Conclusion:The prevalence of HBoV among children in Hainan exhibits distinct seasonal patterns,with age being the most significant factor influencing disease severity.Enhanced moni-toring and protective measures for high-risk pediatric groups are crucial to mitigate the health impact of HBoV infections.关键词
