The effect and mechanism of gangue minerals on sulfuric acid roasting of clay-type lithium ore

Abstract
The use of sulfuric acid as a roasting additive can promote the leaching of lithium in clay-type lithium ore,but there is a problem of large dosage of reagent.In this paper,the effects of gangue minerals chlorite,kaolinite and diaspore on sulfuric acid roasting of clay-type lithium ore in central Yunnan were investigated.The results show that when the content of chlorite and diaspore is low,it has little effect on the sulfuric acid roasting of clay-type lithium ore,while kaolinite has a great influence on the sulfuric acid roasting of clay-type lithium ore.Therefore,the content of kaolinite in the roasted ore sample can be reduced as much as possible by pre-selection.The structure of the roasted ore sample collapsed,loosened and piled up in different degrees,and the surface morphology changed.However,the changes of porosity and total infiltration volume had little correlation with the leaching rate of lithium,indicating that the leaching of lithium in clay-type lithium ore promoted by sulfuric acid roasting was not achieved by increasing the porosity,and the effect of gangue minerals on the leaching rate of lithium was not caused by the change of pore charac-teristics.Sulfuric acid reacts with minerals to form a new phase of alunite.Although gangue minerals consume sulfu-ric acid,it does not affect the reaction between sulfuric acid and chlorite.The decrease of lithium leaching rate caused by gangue minerals may be caused by the new phase produced by gangue minerals during roasting.关键词
