Differences in Resistance to Metazosulfuron Among Different Rice Varieties and Underlying Mechanisms

Abstract

In order to explore the resistance of different rice varieties in Heilongjiang Province,in this study,12 main rice varieties cultivated in Heilongjiang Province were selected as the research subjects.The effects of metazosulfuron on rice root length inhibition and enzyme activities of GSTs,ALS and antioxidant enzymes(SOD,POD,CAT)were determined.The results showed that different rice varieties showed different resistance to metazosulfuron,with Wuyoudao 4 being the most sensitive,ED50 value of only 0.060 4 g·ha-1,Longjing 31 and the most resistant,ED50 value of 0.335 2 g·ha-1,and resistance index up to 5.55.The resistance of the 12 rice varieties to metazosulfuron was Longjing 31>Songjing 28>Suijing 18>Longjing 21>Shengyu 1>Songjing 60>Suijing 27>Longdao 1604>Longdao 18>Longjing 47>Longjing 1624>Wuyoudao 4.Metazosulfuron reduced GSTs activity in rice,after application,the GSTs activity of Longjiang 31 had Wuyoudao 4 rice plants increased first and then decreased.At 10 days after the drug,the GSTs activity of Longjing 31 was reduced to the control level,while Wuyoudao 4 was still significantly higher than that of the control.Metazosulfuron was able to reduce ALS enzyme activity in rice leaves,and Longjing 31 could recover to the control level at 5 days after the drug,while the level of ALS in Wuyoudao 4 was still significantly lower than that of the control group on the 5 days after the treatment.Metazosulfuron can activate the antioxidant systems in both rice varieties.In the rice Longjing 31,the activities of antioxidant enzymes(SOD,POD,CAT)rapidly increase to counteract oxidative stress,returning to normal levels by 10 days after herbicide application.In contrast,the antioxidant system in the rice Wuyoudao 4 responds sluggishly,with its antioxidant enzyme activities remaining unrecovered even 10 days post-treatment.GSTs,ALS and antioxidant enzymes activities were different among different rice varieties,the recovery rate of enzyme activity in resistant rice was significantly higher than that of sensitive rice,and the differences in the responese of GSTs and antioxidant enzyme activity was the main reason for the difference in resistance to different rice varieties.
