Abstract

Although oil and gas have been identified in the Shahejie Formation reservoirs of Structure A in the Caofeidian area of the Bohai Sea,big differences in physical properties and unclear genesis of high-quality reservoirs have severely restricted exploration and evaluation in this area.Using comprehensive petrophysical analyses including cast thin-section microscopy,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and carbon-oxygen isotope analysis,this study investigates the reservoir character-istics and property discrepancy mechanisms between the 2nd and 3 rd members of the Shahejie Formation.Key findings reveal that reservoir lithologies are dominated by lithic arkose and arkosic litharenite.The 2nd mem-ber exhibits an average porosity of 11.8%and permeability of 6.57 × 10-3μm2,classifying it as low-po-rosity ultra-low-permeability reservoirs.In contrast,the 3rd member displays mean porosity of 13.8%and permeability of 43.55 × 10-3 μm2,generally categorized as low-porosity low-permeability reservoirs with localized intervals of medium-porosity medium-permeability characteristics.Sedimentologically,the depositional environment is defined as a closed brackish-saline lacustrine system under intense evaporative conditions with prolonged water residence.Reservoir quality is co-controlled by sedimentary and diagenetic processes,where lithological composition emerges as the primary factor governing regional property varia-tions.Significantly,grain size exerts a pronounced influence on pore development,with the 3rd member fea-turing coarser grains than the 2nd member.Early-formed carbonate cements preserved primary pores,pro-viding a substrate for subsequent dissolution.Late-stage dissolution of carbonates,along with feldspar and lithic fragment leaching in the 3rd member,created effective reservoir spaces through secondary porosity de-velopment.
