Professor Zhao Hongli's Experience in Treating Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Based on Six-Meridian Pattern Identification

Abstract
The syndrome manifestations of polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)are characterized by complexity such as unevenness be-tween exterior and interior,interminged cold and heat,coexistence of deficiency and excess,and transformation between yin and yang.The six-meridian pattern identification has the advantage of highly summarizing the intrinsic pathogenesis of diseases,so professor Zhao Hongli innovatively applies the six-meridian pattern identification system from Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases which has thought of"six meridians establishing the pattern identification for all diseases"to treat PCOS.Professor Zhao summarizes the pathogenesis of P-COS into two categories:deficiency and excess patterns.Deficiency patterns predominantly involve greater yin spleen Deficiency and lesser yin kidney deficiency,treated with Yang-Raising and Stomach-Boosting Decoction,Coptis and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Decoction or Frigid Extremities Decoction to fortify the spleen and warm the kidneys.Excess patterns involve greater yang blood stasis treated with Peach kernel Purgative Decoction to activate blood and dispel stasis,yang bright stomach heat treated with Pinellia Heart-Draining De-coction to clear heat and harmonize the middle energizer,lesser yang heat binding treated with Major Bupleurum Decoction to purge heat accumulation,reverting yin imbalance of cold and heat regulated with Mume Pills to harmonize yin and yang.Besides,Professor Zhao emphasizes the clinical approach of"observing symptoms-identifying affected meridians-selecting formulas,"tailoring treatments by precisely determining the involved meridian and its corresponding pattern.The six-meridian pattern identification model provides a holis-tic,personalized diagnostic and therapeutic framework for PCOS,broadening clinical pathways for pattern differentiation in TCM.关键词
