Abstract

To investigate the effects of diatom(De)-rice symbiosis on cadmium(Cd)accumulation in rice grains,a pot experiment was conducted with four treatments:CK(control),De-N(application of Nitzschia palea),De-C(application of Cyclotella meneghiniana),and F-Si(application of silicon fertilizer).The content of available Si,total Si,available Cd,and total Cd in soil under different treatments,as well as the Cd content in various parts of rice plants,were determined.The results showed that De-C and F-Si significantly increased the available Si and Cd content in soil compared with CK,while the De-C group had significantly lower Cd content in rice roots than other groups.The De-C and F-Si groups had significantly lower Cd content in brown rice than CK and De-N groups.The Cd content in brown rice had significantly and highly significantly negative correlations with the available Si and available Cd content in soil,respectively.It had a highly significantly positive correlation with the Cd content in the roots,stems,and leaves of rice but no significant correlation with soil pH,total Cd,or total Si.The results indicate that De-C enhances soil available Si content,strengthens Cd fixation,and inhibits the Cd absorption and translocation in rice plants,thereby reducing Cd accumulation in rice grains.
