Abstract

To investigate the performance of multi-nitropyrrole compounds,1-methyl-2,3,4-trinitropyrrole and 1-methyl-2,3,5-trinitropyrrole were synthesized based on a one-step nitration of 1-methylpyrrole using HNO3/H2SO4.The by-product 1-methyl-2,4-dinitropyrrole was simultaneously separated.The reaction progress was monitored by thin-layer chromatography(TLC),and the products were characterized by FT-IR,NMR,and SC-XRD.The thermal stability was assessed via DSC-TGA,the mechanical sensitivity was evaluated by sensitivity testing,and the detonation performance was determined by calculation.The results show that the optimal synthesis conditions are:the molar ratio of 1-methylpyrrole/HNO3/H2SO4 is 1∶12∶23,the reaction temperature is 20℃,the reaction time is 34h,and the yield is 65%.1-Methyl-2,3,4-trinitropyrrole exhibits follow-ing properties:m.p.=117.3℃,Tdec=298℃,detonation velocity(D)=8 305 m/s;detonation pressure(P)=29.5 GPa,impact sensitivity(IS)=28%,friction sensitivity(FS)=16%.1-Methyl-2,3,5-trinitropyrrole exhibits following properties:m.p.=93.3℃,Tdec=257.7℃,D=8522m/s,P=31.8GPa,IS=32%,FS=12%.Both trinitropyrroles demonstrate superior detonation performance compared to that of TNT,and lower sensitivity compared to that of trinitropyrazole/imidazole derivatives and other heterocyclic trinitro compounds,showing their potential as a new carrier of melt-cast explosives.
