Abstract

To reveal the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of water quality in the Pihe river main canal and its driving mechanisms,monthly water quality monitoring data from 2021 to 2024 were collected at four cross-sections—Huoshan,Hengpaitou,Luoguan,and Jiangjunling—along the upper and lower reaches of the canal.Eight water quality parameters,in-cluding pH,DO,CODMn,COD,BOD5,NH3-N,TP,and TN,were selected.The pollution level was evaluated using the compre-hensive water quality index method,and the influences of flow and precipitation were analyzed using a structural equation model(SEM).The results showed that the average comprehensive water quality index of water quality in the Pihe river main canal was 81.90,and the water quality evaluation results were mainly concentrated in the'good'grade.In terms of spatial dis-tribution,the comprehensive water quality index value in descending order were as follows:Huoshan(83.96),Luoguan(82.43),Hengpaitou(82.24),and Jiangjunling(78.95);in terms of time distribution,the comprehensive water quality index in December and January were the highest,while the comprehensive water quality index in March was the lowest,followed by July Based on the structural equation modeling(SEM),increased precipitation significantly deteriorated water quality by intensifying pollutant inputs(β=0.488,p<0.001).Although higher flow rates temporarily diluted pollutants(β=-0.195,p<0.01),they concurrently degraded fundamental water conditions due to sediment resuspension(β=-0.514,p<0.001).The overall water quality of the main canal of the Pihe river main canal was good,but there were spatial and temporal differences due to factors such as water supply and rainfall.
