A preliminary study on the meridian-based diagnostic principles for irritable bowel syndrome guided by the theory of"meridian-organs correlation"

Abstract
The"correlation between meridians and zang-fu organs"theory elucidates the bidirectional relationship between them.Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS),a prevalent functional gastrointestinal disorder,significantly impairs patients'quality of life and has evolved as a key focus of research globally.Modern science and technology enhances the objectivity of studies on the correlation among body surface,meridians,and zang-fu viscera,yet the diagnostic principles for zang-fu diseases based on this theory remain to be systematically worked out.Using IBS as a case,this research reviews ancient texts,contemporary literature,and clinical investigations,analyzing the core diseased viscera and associated viscera,observing the specific characteristics of principal and related meridians,and examining the phenomena involving other meridians within the same nerve segment.This exploration summarizes the meridian-based diagnostic principles for IBS and integrates the essence of the"correlation between meridians and zang-fu organs"theory into the acupuncture and moxibustion therapies,offering a new approach for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders.关键词
