Research Progress on Zero Liquid Discharge and Resource Recovery of Photovoltaic Cell Wastewater

Abstract
[Objective]This study aims to investigate the water quality characteristics and treatment technologies of photovoltaic(PV)cell wastewater,with a focus on key pathways for achieving zero-liquid discharge(ZLD)and resource recovery.It seeks to address the environmental and water resource challenges posed by high-salinity wastewater generated during PV cell production and to fill the gap in comprehensive review studies on ZLD and resource recovery for this type of wastewater.[Methods]Through literature review,data synthesis,and field investigations,the study systematically analyzes the main components of PV cell wastewater and their environmental impacts.It evaluates the current status of wastewater treatment technologies both domestically and internationally and summarizes the practical applications and performance of techniques such as pretreatment,desalination,concentration,and evaporation-crystallization.The study also focuses on identifying the technical challenges in wastewater treatment within the PV cell industry.[Results]The findings reveal that PV cell wastewater contains significant amounts of inorganic salts,acidic and alkaline substances,and heavy metals.Current treatment technologies primarily target conventional organic pollutants and nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus.However,significant challenges remain in achieving ZLD and resource recovery,including high energy consumption and costs,severe membrane fouling and scaling,insufficient resource utilization,and difficulties in process integration.These challenges highlight an urgent need for technological breakthroughs.[Conclusion]To improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of ZLD treatment for PV cell wastewater,this study recommends focusing on four key areas:the development of advanced treatment technologies,optimization of membrane materials,integration of treatment processes,and the adoption of intelligent management systems.Advancing these aspects can provide a theoretical foundation and practical reference for the efficient treatment of PV cell wastewater,supporting the green and sustainable development of the PV industry while contributing to global energy transition and the achievement of national carbon neutrality goals.关键词
