Removal Efficiency of Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances in Water through Nanofiltration

Abstract
[Objective]Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs),the emerging micro-pollutants,are taking as the research object,and nanofiltration is taking as the treatment technology,the control effect of nanofiltration technology on PFASs in drinking water is investigated.[Methods]Considering the inflow quality requirements of nanofiltration process and its application prospect in the drinking water treatment plant,the outflow of the conventional process section(sand filter)in the drinking water treatment plant was employed as the inflow for the nanofiltration system,based on monitoring and analyzing the occurrence characteristics of PFASs,the removal efficiency of nanofiltration on PFASs under different parameters was studied by adjusting the operating pressure,running time,and the inflow concentration of typical PFASs.[Results]The total amount of PFASs detected in the outflow of the conventional process section(sand filter)was from 188.36 to 286.96 ng/L,with perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA)and perfluorooctyl sulfonic acid(PFOS)as the main components.The removal efficiency of nanofiltration on PFASs was relatively stable under different operating pressures(from 0.3 MPa to 0.6 MPa)and running times(from 1 to 8 hours),and the removal efficiency of the total amount of PFASs could reach over 80%,in terms of two typical PFASs(PFOA and PFOS),the detected concentrations of PFOA and PFOS in nanofiltration outflow under different operating pressures(from 0.3 MPa to 0.6 MPa)and different running times(from 1 hours to 8 hours)were all below 10 ng/L,and the highest removal efficiency could reach 96.84%.In addition,the removal efficiency of PFOA and PFOS through nanofiltration were closely related to the outflow concentration,the removal quantity of PFOA and PFOS increased with the increase of outflow concentration,while the removal efficiency first increased and then slightly decreased with the increase of outflow concentration,the concentrations of PFOA and PFOS in the outflow of nanofiltration could still reach a low level.[Conclusion]Nanofiltration is effective in removing PFASs under different process parameters,and the stability of water quality is also ensured.It provides a reference for the application of nanofiltration technology to the control and removal of PFASs in drinking water.关键词
