Design of a Passive Vision-based TIG Weld Seam Tracking System

Abstract
In the pipeline network renovation projects of western China,the artificial backing welding method for 2 420 mm-diameter nickel-based alloy pipes during all-position welding exhibits low production efficiency and unstable quality.To address this issue,a passive vision-based TIG welding seam tracking method is proposed.A dedicated passive vision optical acquisition system is designed,through which real-time welding image acquisition and feature extraction are implemented.The groove edge position and torch tip zone are identified as regions of interest for image processing.Edge detection methods are employed to extract and characterize both groove position information and arc horizontal position information from welding images.Experimental results show that:the proposed image adaptive processing algorithm effectively enhances the original image grayscale average value,with the grayscale difference between internal and external groove areas being increased from 60 to 150;the established welding seam tracking system successfully acquires tungsten electrode positions during both backing and filling welding processes;through preset deviation tests,the tungsten electrode alignment is verified to be controlled within±0.5 mm range.关键词
