The Impact of the Digital Peer Effect on the Distance of Enterprise Technology Frontier

Abstract
Under the background of the deep integration of digital economy and real economy,how dig-ital peer effect affects enterprise technological frontier distance is a research that urgently needs to be explored.Taking the data of Chinese A-share listed firms in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2011 to 2023 as a research sample,this paper explores the impact of the digital peer effect on enterprise technological frontier distance by using a two-way fixed-effects model,and further examines the mediating role of du-al innovation and the moderating role of strategic aggressiveness.It is found that the digital peer effect has a significant negative impact on technological frontier distance,in which exploitative innovation plays a partial mediating role and exploratory innovation has a masking effect;and that strategic aggres-siveness inhibits the negative relationship of the digital peer effect on technological frontier distance.The results of heterogeneity analyses indicate that state-owned firms(SOEs)and high-tech firms(HTEs)are more affected by the digital peer effect in the process of shortening the technological distance to in-dustry frontier firms than non-SOEs and non-HTEs,respectively.The findings of the study help to clari-fy the influence mechanism of the digital peer effect on the technological catch-up of firms,and provide theoretical support for firms to accelerate digital transformation and shorten the distance to the techno-logical frontier.关键词
