Abstract

The double bonded vanillin(VMA)was synthesized by Steglich esterification reaction,and the emulsion acrylate pressure sensitive adhesive was prepared by seeded semi-continuous emulsion polymerization with VMA as comonomer,butyl acrylate(BA),acrylic acid(AA)and hydroxyethyl 2-acrylate(HEA).The chemical structure and morphology of the emulsion polymer were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(1H NMR)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).The results showed that VMA was successfully introduced into the polymer.The emulsion had unifrom size and good stability and the particle dispersion index(PDI)was less than 0.05.The glass transition temperature(T)of the pressure sensitive adhesive increased significantly from-41.46℃to-15.96℃with the increase of VMA dosage,and the thermal stability reached the best when the VMA dosage was 10%(based on the total mass).Additionally,the addition of VMA significantly increased the holding power of the pressure sensitive adhesive,while reduced the loop tack and peel strength.The initial adhesion of EP3 was(2.42±0.05)N/cm,the 180° peel strength was(1.22±0.10)N/cm,and the holding powder was greater than 72 h.In order to further improve the performance,cellulose nanocrystals(CNC)were introduced into the pressure sensitive adhesive by physical blending method.It was shown that the addition of CNC could improve the loop tack,peel strength and holding power of the pressure sensitive adhesive.The loop tack of CEP3 was(2.56±0.25)N/cm,the peel strength at 180° was(1.68±0.20)N/cm,and the holding power was greater than 72 h.
