Evaluation of Er:YAG laser in clinical comfortable treatment of oral mucocele

Abstract
Objective:To compare the comfort effects of Er:YAG laser and traditional surgical methods in the treat-ment of oral mucocele.Methods:Clinical data from 80 patients with oral mucocele who were treated at the Stomatology De-partment of Shanghai Renji Hospital from August 2018 to August 2020 were retrospectively analyzed.Patients were assigned to either the surgical group or laser group according to the surgical plan.Prior to surgery,patients completed the modified dental anxiety scale(MDAS)and dental fear scale(DFS)to assess dental anxiety.Both groups completed the visual analog scale(VAS)to evaluate pain levels on the day of surgery,3 days,7 days post-operatively,while complications and adverse re-actions were also observed,with follow-up for recurrence at six months post-surgery.Results:The MDAS and DFS scores for the Er:YAG laser group were significantly lower than those of the surgical group,the operation duration for the laser group was significantly shorter(P<0.05).The postoperative VAS scores for both the laser and surgical groups decreased significant-ly,but the scores for the laser group were significantly lower than those of the surgical group on the day of surgery,3 days and 7 days post-surgery.The intraoperative blood loss,postoperative swelling,and bleeding rates in the laser group were all signifi-cantly lower than those in the surgical group(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in efficacy between the two groups at the six-month follow-up(P>0.05).Conclusion:The Er:YAG laser treatment for oral mucoceles can signifi-cantly shorten the operation time,and effectively reduce intraoperative bleeding,postoperative pain,and the severity of adverse reactions.关键词
