Abstract
"Scientia Silvae Sinicae"was founded in 1955,and its predecessor can be traced back to the first forestry magazine in China,"Journal of Forestry",which was founded by the Chinese Forest Society in 1921 and forced to cease publication in 1922.It was inherited by"Journal of the Forestry Association of China"in 1929.On the 70th anniversary of the founding of Scientia Silvae Sinicae in 2025,this article explores the wood science in the inaugural issues of three journals.Forests are crucial to the national economy and people's livelihood.Timber,as a primary product from forests,holds exceptional important value.Consequently,these pioneer journals dedicated significant shares on timber.This included its national security responsibility related to military industry,its connection to people's livelihoods through employment,as well as the research activities on wood physical and mechanical properties.The research on wood in three journals was with its own focus and evolved with the times.Wood science,as a discipline within forest research,influenced tree species selection for afforestation,policy formulation and the creation of specialized institutions,eventually solidifying wood science as an independent discipline with dedicated research organizations.关键词
