摘要

Abstract

The composition of coal-based mesophase pitch(CMP)is intrinsically correlated to the microstructure and properties of the derived graphite fibers,offering an effectively pathway for fiber enhancement by regulating the anisotropic component content of CMP.In this study,CMP with varying anisotropic component contents was prepared through a thermal treatment method involving self-pressurization and nitrogen purging,using refined coal tar pitch as the raw material.The derived CMP was subsequently processed into graphite fibers through a sequence of melt spinning,stabiliza-tion,carbonization,and graphitization.Comprehensive characterization was conducted using elemental analysis,polarized optical microscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry,X-ray diffraction,scanning electron micros-copy,and transmission electron microscopy.These techniques were employed to characterize the fun-damental properties,molecular structure,molecular weight distributions of the CMP,and microstruc-ture of graphite fibers.Furthermore,the impacts of anisotropic component content on the structural evolution and mechanical performance of the resultant graphite fibers were systematically investigated.The results indicate that,as the anisotropic component content of CMP increases from 43%to 99%,the molecular weight distribution around 1 000 Da becomes more distinct and narrower,with an increased proportion of planar macromolecules composed of high-molecular-weight condensed aro-matic hydrocarbons.Spinnability initially increases before decreasing,while the order index(OI)increases from 0.443 to 0.544.Increasing the anisotropic component content of CMP promotes the preferred orientation of the microcrystalline structure along the fiber axis,reducing defects in the graph-ite microcrystallites.The cross-sectional morphology of the graphite fibers exhibits a pronounced radial texture,with graphite layers arranged parallel and tightly packed.Graphite fibers derived from CMP with 99%anisotropic component content demonstrated a superior graphite structure,achieving a tensile strength of 1.96 GPa and a tensile modulus of 449 GPa.
