The Role of Bark Functional Traits in Carbon Storage and Climate Change Response
摘要
Abstract
Bark,as the outer tissue of trees,has functional traits such as thickness,density and chemical composition,and plays an important role in carbon storage and response to climate change.This paper provides a brief overview of the structure and major functional traits of bark,and explores the mechanisms of bark in carbon storage,including the contribution of thick bark in carbon storage,the support of carbon persistence by high-density bark,and the effects of specific chemical composition on carbon storage and decomposition rates.In addition,this paper analyzes the adaptive performance of bark under climate change stresses,particularly its role in fire,drought,and insect resistance.The diversity of bark functional traits enhances the ability of trees to cope with environmental stresses,contributes to the carbon balance of forest ecosystems,and provides new perspectives for addressing climate change.关键词
