"Breakthrough"and"Divergence"in the Combination of"Historical Description"and"Poetic Synthesis"

Abstract
Since the turn of the 21st century,narratological studies of Chinese new poetry have emerged as a significant focus within the broader field of Chinese poetry research.Among these,Yang Siping's Narrative Studies of Chinese New Poetry—integrating historical narrative with theoretical reflection—stands out as both influential and representative.Centering on a century of narrative forms in Chinese new poetry,Yang combines intra-textual and extra-textual analysis,as well as historical and logical methodologies.By transforming and adapting two core concepts of Western narratology—"narrative"and"segmentality"—he systematically charts the narrative evolution of Chinese new poetry and undertakes the theoretical construction of poetic narratology.His work exemplifies a distinctive scholarly approach that synthesizes historical description and poetics.In terms of research perspective,methodology,and theoretical conclusions,his study achieves three notable breakthroughs.However,certain limitations remain—particularly in the definition and application of key concepts,the coherence of its logical framework,and the innovation of a segmented narrative theory for Chinese new poetry.Examining the value and limitations of this history-theory integrated approach offers valuable insight for the future development of narratological and poetic studies on Chinese new poetry.关键词
