The Common Prosperity Effect of Financial Reform:A Quasi-natural Experiment Based on National Pilot Financial Reform Zones

Abstract
The national-level pilot financial reform zone has become an important carrier of China's financial supply-side structural reform,and under the socialist market economy system with Chinese characteristics,finance and its internal reforms are important forces in promoting common prosperity.Based on the panel data of 284 cities from 2003 to 2022,this paper takes the establishment of national pilot financial reform zones as a quasi-natural experiment,and adopts the empirical method of multi-period difference-in-differences to test the impact of financial re-form on common prosperity.The results show that:(1)Financial reform has economic growth effects,income distribution effects,and common prosperity effects.After a series of model validity tests and robustness tests,the conclusion still holds.(2)Mechanism testing has found that financial reform promotes common prosperity by improving the accessibility of traditional finance,digital inclusive finance,and innovation and entrepreneurship levels.(3)Heterogeneity analysis shows that there are differences in the impact of different pilot financial reform zones and financial reforms on common prosperity in different types of cities.Specifically,financial innovation reform mainly acts on economic growth and common prosperity.Private financial reform mainly narrows the income gap between urban and rural areas and promotes economic growth and common pros-perity.Rural financial reform narrows the income gap between urban and rural areas and promotes common prosperity.In terms of urban heterogeneity,financial reform focuses on promoting economic growth in second tier and above cities,and narrowing the urban-rural income gap in third-tier cities and below.This paper has certain reference significance for continuing to deepen the structural reform of financial supply side and realizing common prosperity of all the people.关键词
