Abstract

Fertilizer reduction is an important component in promoting agricultural high-qual-ity development.Existing studies have revealed the influencing factors of farmers' fertilizer appli-cation behaviors from traditional factors such as land and labor and their allocation changes.The role of digital empowerment based on new economic factors is ignored.Based on the survey data of 1850 farmers in major grain-producing areas in Hubei Province,this paper discusses the impact of digital empowerment on farmers' fertilizer reduction and its mechanism.The results show that:(1)Digital empowerment can significantly reduce farmers' fertilizer application amount;(2)The main mechanism of digital empowerment to promote farmers' fertilizer reduction is to alleviate the risk of information asymmetry in farmers' factor purchase decision-making through the digitization of factor transaction,and to avoid the limitation of labor endowment in farmers' factor use deci-sion-making through the digitization of production equipment;(3)The development of moderate scale and the expansion of plot size can effectively enhance the positive impact of digital empower-ment on farmers' fertilizer reduction.The endogeneity test and robustness test indicate the reliabil-ity of the above results.Accordingly,the"digital village construction"in China can provide impor-tant support for high-quality development of agriculture.
