数字基础设施建设能提升农业企业ESG表现吗
Does Digital Infrastructure Construction Promote the ESG Performance of Agricultural Enterprises?A Quasi-natural Experiment Based on the"Broadband China"Strategy

Abstract
This study employs the"Broadband China"strategy as a quasi-natural experiment,utilizing a sample of 165 A-share listed agricultural companies from 2011 to 2022.By applying a progressive Difference-in-Differences(DID)model,we examine the impact effect of digital infrastructure development on the ESG(Environmental,Social,and Governance)performance of agricultural enterprises and the underlying mechanisms involved.The results reveal that digital infrastructure significantly enhances the ESG performance of agricultural compa-nies.This conclusion remains robust through a series of checks,including Propensity Score Matc-hing Difference-in-Differences(PSM-DID)tests and sample variations.Mechanism analysis indi-cates that digital infrastructure development primarily improves ESG performance by alleviating fi-nancing constraints,enhancing green technology innovation,increasing market transparency,and boosting public awareness.Further analysis demonstrates that,in terms of external environmental factors,digital infrastructure has a notable positive effect on the ESG performance of agricultural enterprises subject to urban environmental regulations and those operating in regions with signifi-cant topographical variation.Regarding internal characteristics,the enhancement effect is particu-larly pronounced for enterprises producing edible products and manufacturing-focused agricultural companies.Based on these findings,this paper proposes several policy recommendations:accelera-ting the digital transformation of agricultural enterprises,increasing investment in green technology research and development,optimizing ESG evaluation processes,and strengthening social oversight of ESG performance.关键词
