Abstract

Addressing the current gaps in our understanding of the distribution patterns and ecological functions of archaea in marine sediments,this study aims to delve into the community composition and spatial distribution characteristics of archaea in sediments of Chinese marginal seas.Through high-throughput archaeal 16S rRNA gene sequencing,we analysed the differences in the community composition of archaea in the Yellow Sea,East China Sea and South China Sea,and explored the mechanisms of community assembly and the co-occurrence relationships among archaeal species by using neutral community models and network analysis.The α-diversity of the archaeal community was highest in the East China Sea,with the Shannon and Ace indices being significantly higher than those in the South China Sea(P<0.01)and the Yellow Sea(P<0.01).Non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis indicated that the archaeal communities had clear regional heterogeneity among different sea areas.At the phylum level,Crenarchaeota(accounting for 59.4%)and Nanoarchaeota(accounting for 15.0%)were the most dominant archaeal groups across all samples.Nitrosopumilales(Marine GroupⅠ,MG-Ⅰ)had the highest proportion in Crenarchaeota.More detailed taxonomic annotation revealed that MG-Ⅰ belonged to multiple evolutionary branches,among which Nitrosopumilus was the predominant genus,and 84.1%of Nitrosopumilus belonged to the MG-Ⅰ Alpha subclade.The neutral community model showed that the assembly of archaeal communities in the sediments of the Chinese marginal seas was mainly influenced by stochastic processes,in which species dispersal in the South China Sea was significantly higher than that in the other two sea areas.The co-occurrence network indicated that the archaeal network structure in the East China Sea was the most complex,and the network structure in the Yellow Sea was the simplest.The diversity and spatial distribution of archaea in different areas of the Chinese marginal seas are significantly different,which may be affected by a variety of factors such as environmental forces(temperature,salinity and pH,et al),geographic distance,and co-occurrence of microorganisms et al.This study provides important insights into the distribution patterns of archaea in marine sediments and their evolutionary patterns.
