Abstract

In recent years,galloping has emerged as a significant threat to the safety of overhead transmission lines.However,there is a dearth of effective evaluation methods for line galloping risk as well as anti-galloping devices,particularly those that are quantitative and comprehensive.This paper,grounded in a thorough examination of triggering mechanisms,line structures,and meteorological factors,identifies two critical elements to focus on:ice thickness and wind speed.Utilizing statistical weighting,a numerical quantification method for galloping risk is introduced.This method comprehensively assesses the interrelationships among design conditions,such as galloping zones,wind zones,and icy zones,and the risk of line galloping both before and after the installation of anti-galloping devices.The evaluation results are presented in percentage form.Using a 500 kV transmission line project as an example,the study analyzed the necessity of anti-galloping measures and the differences before and after the installation of anti-galloping devices,quantitatively demonstrating the rationality of these measures.The findings of this study offer a reference for optimizing the application of anti-galloping devices in anti-galloping design work of line design,operation,maintenance,or technical upgrades.
