Abstract

Aiming at the characteristic that the road conditions of the track for Baja off-road vehicles are complex,based on the Ackerman steering geometry principle and in combination with the constraints of the minimum turning radius and the requirements of dynamic working conditions,the design of the steering system was completed.Through theoretical calculations,the maximum angle of the outer wheel and the angle of the inner wheel were determined.And by adopting the rear-mounted disconnecting type steering trapezoid structure,the design and parameter optimization of the steering trapezoid mechanism were completed,and finally an Ackerman rate of 70%was achieved.A model of the front suspension motion simulation test bench was established,and the understeer characteristics and wheel jump characteristics were verified through simulation.Results demonstrated that the proposed system exhibited inherent understeer(K>0)with reduced toe-angle variation amplitude,significantly improvd handling stability-providing valuable insights for compact off-road vehicle steering design.Static structural analysis of critical components(rack-pinion gears and steering gear mounting plate)confirmed all stress values remain within allowable limits.
