Abstract
Using the main bridge expansion project of the Huai River grand bridge on the Xinyang expressway as a case study,this paper explores optimal bridge expansion schemes.A two-dimensional hydrodynamic model is employed to analyze the effects of different span configurations—combined with the existing old bridge piers—on river flood conveyance from the aspects of flow patterns,scouring,and backwater rise.The results indicate that Scheme 2,which features a wide-span and large pier design with a main span of 242 meters,has less impact on flood discharge capacity in the section of the river with the existing bridge than Scheme 1,which has a narrower span configuration(160+80 meters).The findings demonstrate that bridge expansion should comprehensively consider both hydraulic and navigation requirements,and that the arrangement of pier locations and span lengths should be optimized to minimize adverse effects on flood conveyance.This study provides a scientific basis for decision-making by relevant authorities and serves as a reference for similar bridge expansion projects.关键词
