Effect of auricular presstack needle stimulation on brain function in motion sickness based on regional homogeneity analysis

Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of auricular presstack needle stimulation on brain function in individuals with motion sickness using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging(rs-fMRI).Methods Forty participants prone to motion sickness were randomly assigned to an observation group and a control group,with 20 cases in each group.A multifunctional vestibular rotary chair was used to induce motion sickness.In the observation group,auricular presstack needles were applied at the Shenmen(TF4),Zhen(AT3),Jiaogan(AH6a),Wei(CO4),and Neier(LO6)acupoints 2 hours prior to motion sickness stimulation,and left for 2 hours.The control group was treated with delayed intervention,that was,auricular presstack needles were given after the evaluation.Graybiel scale score and grade were compared before and after intervention in the two groups.Rs-fMRI data was collected to analyze changes in regional homogeneity(ReHo)values in the two groups.Results After intervention,the observation group showed significantly reduced Graybiel score(P<0.01),which was also lower than that of the control group(P<0.01).The Graybiel scale of the observation group after intervention was better than that before intervention and that of the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).Compared with before intervention,the control group exhibited increased ReHo values in the right cerebellar peduncles(lobules Ⅰ and Ⅱ)(P<0.05)and decreased ReHo in the left lingual gyrus and calcarine fissure(P<0.05)following motion sickness stimulation.In the observation group,post-intervention ReHo values increased in the right precuneus and superior occipital gyrus(P<0.05)compared with before intervention,while decreased ReHo values were observed in the left fusiform gyrus,lingual gyrus,and right calcarine fissure,supramarginal gyrus,and superior temporal gyrus(P<0.05).Conclusion Motion sickness is associated with abnormal ReHo changes in multiple brain regions.Auricular presstack needle stimulation may exert preventive and therapeutic effects by modulating regional neuronal coherence in the parietal and occipital lobes,correcting abnormal transmission of visual and cognitive signals,and thereby enhancing resistance to motion sickness.关键词
