Abstract

The northwest(NW)-trending faults in the Xihu Depression can be categorized into three types:deep and large faults dominated by joints,structural transformation faults with weak regulation and tension-induced fractures associated with anticlinal cores.This study investigates the reservoir-controlling role of weakly regulated NW-trending faults in structural transformation zones.The results demonstrate that the deep layers of the Q2 structure are jointly controlled by NE-and NW-trending faults,whereas the shallow layers are primarily influenced by NW-trending faults.The NE-trending faults exhibit high density and multiple phases of activity.Furthermore,the development of upper-layer NW-trending faults(F2)is closely correlated with lower-layer faults(F1).Weakly regulated faults formed early but experienced limited late-stage reactivation,hindering the formation of shallow resurfacing faults.Hydrocarbon migration in the Q2 structure occurs predominantly along vertical pathways,with NE-trending faults serving as the primary conduits.In contrast,NW-trending faults play a critical role in trap development and exhibit strong sealing capacity,thereby controlling localized hydrocarbon accumulation.Weakly regulated NW-trending faults are commonly developed within the transition zone of the central anticline belt.The mid-to-deep low-amplitude anticlines influenced by these faults represent a promising target for future hydrocarbon exploration in the Xihu Depression.
