Impact of port conditions on the construction of modern industrial systems in coastal cities

Abstract
To examine the impact of port conditions on the construction of modern industrial systems in coastal cities,this paper utilizes panel data from 43 coastal cities in China from 2003 to 2022 to construct a six-dimensional evaluation index system encompassing industrial structure and production efficiency.Empirical analysis is conducted using fixed effects models and moderating effects models.The findings of this paper are as follows.First,coastal cities in China exhibit an overall upward trend in modern industrial system development with significant regional disparities;and port conditions demonstrate an inverted U-shaped relationship with modern industrial system advancement,initially promoting then later inhibiting its development.Second,there is heterogeneity among coastal cities regarding the impact of port conditions on the construction of modern industrial systems in coastal cities,and port conditions show more promoting effects on the development of modern industrial systems in southern coastal cities than in northern cities.Third,industrial diversity has a negative moderating effect on the inverted U-shaped relationship between port conditions and the construction of modern industrial systems of coastal cities,which causes the inflection point to emerge later and makes the inverted U-shaped curve flatter.关键词
