Relative Chlorophyll Content and Microhabitat Characteristics of Understory Plants in the Community of Vatica guangxiensis,a Species with Extremely Small Populations

Abstract
Due to narrow distribution ranges and difficulties in population renewal,rare and endangered plants are facing survival and reproduction crisis,and need urgent protection.Investigating understory plants and microhabitats within the plant community is one of the important tasks in the conservation of rare and endangered plants.Vatica guangxiensis is a species with very small populations,and is classified as a na-tional class Ⅰ key protected wild plant.In order to study the relative chlorophyll content and microhabitat characteristics of the understory plants of V.guangxiensis community and evaluate the utilization of light re-source by V.guangxiensis in the community,an investigation was conducted on V.guangxiensis natural con-servation plot in Pingtan Village,Baihe Township,Napo County,and the soil-plant analysis development(SPAD)values of understory plants and microhabitat factors such as temperature and light were measured.The results showed that microhabitat factors were important for the growth and development of V.guangxien-sis.The understory microhabitats of the V.guangxiensis community were complex,with obvious slopes and a high canopy density,and the understory plant compositions and photosynthetic utilization strategies were sig-nificantly different.In addition,compared with other plants in the community,the SPAD value of V.guang-xiensis was at a lower level,indicating its lower photosynthetic level.Measures such as creating light gaps and reasonably clearing redundant plant branches and leaves can be taken to further improve the photosyn-thetic efficiency of V.guangxiensis.关键词
