Abstract

[Objective]To explore the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of erosive rainfall and rainfall erosivity in the Yellow River Basin,to develop simplified equations for estimating annual rainfall erosivity in the basin and its sub-regions,and to provide support for rainfall erosion risk management in the river basins.[Methods]Using rainfall data from 54 meteorological stations in the Yellow River Basin from 1960 to 2022,the M-K non-parametric test,regression,correlation,and other analysis methods were employed to investigate the characteristics of non-erosive and erosive rainfall and the spatiotemporal variations of rainfall erosivity,and to develop simplified equations for estimating rainfall erosivity.[Results]From 1960 to 2022,both the amount and frequency of non-erosive rainfall in the Yellow River Basin showed a significant decreasing trend,while non-erosive rainfall intensity showed a significant increasing trend.Specifically,the trends were-2.17 mm/10 years,-2.15 days/10 years,and 0.05 mm/(day·10 years),respectively.Erosive rainfall characteristics showed increasing trends,but the results did not pass the significance test.Since the early 1990s,the frequency of non-erosive rainfall has a persistent and significant decreasing trend,while its intensity has continued to increase significantly.The intensity of erosive rainfall has shown a sustained increase since the 1990s.Overall,rainfall erosivity in the Yellow River Basin has increased.The upper and lower reaches showed upward trends,while the middle reaches showed a decreasing trend.[Conclusion]This study indicates that the simplified equations based on different intensity levels of erosive rainfall demonstrate satisfactory simulation performance,providing a practical method for estimating annual rainfall erosivity in the Yellow River Basin.
