Abstract

It is of great significance to study the ecological stoichiometric characteristics of carbon(C),nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)in litter and soil of different vegetation types and their relationships to reveal nutrient cycling and element balance in mountain ecosystems.Four typical vegetation types(1464-2947 m)on the eastern slope of Helan Mountains were selected as the research objects to analyze the changes in C,N,P stoichiometric characteristics of litter and surface soil along the altitude and their relationships.It was found that litter total carbon content decreased first and then increased,while the litter total phosphorus content increased gradually,with the increase of altitude.There was an inflection point for litter total carbon at 1562 m,with a minimum value of 336.80 g·kg-1,and the maximum value of litter total phosphorus content was 0.92 g·kg-1 at 2947 m.Litter total nitrogen content increased first and then decreased;there was an inflection point for litter total nitrogen at 1562 m,with a maximum value of 13.73 g·kg-1.Both of the soil organic carbon and total phosphorus content increased first and then decreased with the increase of altitude,and there is an inflection point for soil organic carbon and total phosphorus at 2116 m,reached the maximum value of 79.57 g·kg-1 and 0.87 g·kg-1,respectively.Soil total nitrogen content increased gradually and reached a maximum value of 7.77 g·kg-1 at 2947 m.The ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus(N:P)and carbon to phosphorus(C:P)in litter decreased gradually with the increase of altitude,while the ratio of carbon to nitrogen(C:N)in litter decreased first and then increased.Soil C:N ratio increased first and then decreased,while soil N:P ratio and C:P ratio showed a trend of gradual increase.The total nitrogen content in litter was significantly and negatively correlated with soil organic carbon(SOC)and soil C:P ratio(P<0.05),and the total phosphorus content in litter was significantly and positively correlated with soil total nitrogen and soil total phosphorus content(P<0.01).Litter N:P ratio was significantly and negatively correlated with soil organic carbon,soil total nitrogen,soil total phosphorus content,soil N:P ratio,and soil C:P ratio(P<0.01).Litter C:P ratio was significantly and negatively correlated with soil total nitrogen and soil total phosphorus content(P<0.05).The results of this study can provide a theoretical basis for exploring the nutrient cycling of soil and litter and their relationship in different vegetation types in Helan Mountains.
