Abstract

Urban greenspace plays essential role in urban ecosystem and provides important ecosystem services.A clear recognition on the composition and change of urban greenspace is vital for urban planning and management.Previous studies have largely focused on the dynamic of urban greenspace using medium resolution remotely sensed data.However,the dynamic greenspace patches in urbanizing areas need to be accurately interpreted based on high resolution image data,because they are generally small but highly contribute to human health.Based on high resolution satellite images of 2016 and 2021,this study analyzed the dynamic change characteristics of urban greenspace within the sixth ring road of Beijing.The results showed that urban greenspace area in 2021 was 1131.40 km2,with forest,grassland and farmland accounting for 73.34%,22.79%and 3.87%,respectively.The urban greenspace area increased by 34.59 km2,or 3.15%in proportion from 2016 to 2021.The increased greenspace types were mostly plain afforestation and park forest land.From 2016 to 2021,the amounts of gain and loss of greenspace were 149.07 km2 and 114.48 km2,respectively,accounting for 6.57%and 5.04%of the entire study area.The gain and loss of urban greenspace mostly converted with construction land.The land cover types conversion occurred mainly in the southwest of the city and the areas between the fifth and sixth ring roads.The urban greenspace in second to sixth ring roads was very dynamic,with the change rates ranged from 12.78%to 25.70%.Due to the limited lands for greening in urbanized areas,the new greenspace patches were generally small,which required high resolution image data to interpret.In the past 5 years,urban greenspace cover rate increased and patches fragmentation decreased,the new patches enhanced the connectivity of urban greenspace.Additionally,the greenspace patches were more aggregated and continuous from second to sixth ring roads.Our study indicated that urban greenspace in well-developed city regions will be experiencing great changes,even over a short time period.In recent years,Beijing has made notable progress in greening,and the quantity and quality of greenspace have been improved.
