Abstract

[Objective]As a globally important grain and energy crop,sorghum's plant architecture optimization is crucial for en-hancing yield and stress tolerance.This study aimed to elucidate the genetic basis of plant height traits in parental lines to facili-tate targeted breeding of high-yielding,stress-resistant,and machine-harvestable sorghum varieties.[Methods]In this study,43 sorghum restoration lines were evaluated using integrated approaches including phenotypic characterization,correlation anal-ysis,cluster analysis,and molecular marker technology to systematically investigate the genetic control of plant architecture-re-lated traits and their breeding potential.[Results]Plant height showed significant positive correlations with flag leaf spacing and panicle neck length,while negatively correlating with panicle length.Phenotypic clustering analysis identified three distinct groups:group Ⅰ represented ideal plant-type germplasm;Group Ⅱ required dominant gene introgression for height improve-ment,and group Ⅲ exhibited extreme tall stature(174.50 cm)with elongated panicle necks,serving as valuable resources for biomass enhancement.The DW1 and DW2 dominant haplotype(DW1DW1DW2DW2)significantly promoted plant height(152.31 cm in the double dominant genotypes),while the recessive homozygous genotype(dw1dw1dw2dw2)specifically in-creased neck exsertion length(14.00 cm)and panicle neck length(39.89 cm).[Conclusion]This study demonstrated synergis-tic effects of DW1/DW2 dominant alleles on plant height and specific regulation of panicle neck elongation by recessive homo-zygotes,providing both theoretical insights and practical germplasm resources for plant architecture-oriented breeding pro-grams.
