Non-isothermal Co-gasification Behavior and Kinetic Analysis of Biomass with Petroleum Coke

Abstract

[Purposes]The non-isothermal co-gasification reaction characteristics of biomass feedstock directly with petroleum coke are investigated by thermogravimetric analysis under CO2 atmo-sphere,and the effects of blending ratio are discussed.[Methods]Through co-gasification experi-ments involving biomass ash and demineralized biomass blended with petroleum coke,the effects of biomass minerals and organic matter on the gasification of petroleum coke were explored.[Results]The results show that addition of biomass significantly increases the gasification reactivity of petro-leum coke.And this enhancement increases with the biomass blending ratio,whereas the presence of petroleum coke has little effect on the weight loss behavior of the biomass pyrolysis process.During the co-gasification process,the minerals in biomass,rather than the organic matter,catalyzes the gas-ification of petroleum coke with the catalytic effect intensifying as the mineral content increases.The presence of petroleum coke has almost no effect on the weight loss characteristics of biomass during pyrolysis.The substantial reduction in gasification reactivity after the removal of minerals from the bio-mass further confirmes the catalytic role of these minerals.The specific gasification rate analysis of the co-gasification process indicates that the specific gasification rate increases monotonically with increas-ing gasification temperature,allowing for the evaluation of the reactivity of different blending ratios.Specific gasification rates at different temperatures during the non-isothermal process are used as the rate constants under corresponding isothermal conditions for performing kinetic calculations.The re-sults show that the activation energy for biomass gasification is significantly lower than that for demin-eralized biomass,indicating that the presence of minerals in the biomass significantly reduces the acti-vation energy of the reaction.The activation energy of petroleum coke-biomass mixtures decreases as the proportion of biomass in the mixture increases.The obtained kinetic equations can well fit the char-acteristics of the co-gasification reactions of biomass and petroleum coke mixtures,as well as predict the gasification reaction behaviors at higher temperatures.
