Abstract

[Purposes]The oxidative degradation of phenanthrene by Fe(VI)/PS combined pro-cess needs study.[Methods]The effects of Fe(VI)oxidation time,pH,and dosage of oxidant on the phenanthrene degradation by the combined process were investigated by using methods such as fluores-cence detection and GC-MS.The reaction mechanism of the combined process was clarified and the reaction pathways was inferred.[Results]The results show that when the pH is 7 and n(Fe(VI)):n(PS):n(PHE)is 2:2:1,the removal efficiency of phenanthrene at 6 µmol·L-1 reaches 83.37%,with PS additon after Fe(VI)reacting for 300 s.In the early stage of the combined process,phenanthrene is oxidized efficiently by Fe(VI).In the later stage,the organics are continually degraded by SO4-·and HO·generated from the process that PS is effectively activated by Fe substances from Fe(VI)re-duction,taking the advantages of single oxidation methods.Phenanthrene is gradually oxidized,hy-droxylated,split,and hydrogenated,mainly via two pathways of 9,10 phenanthrene quinone and 2,3 phenanthrene quinone,separately,and finally effectively mineralized,under the action of high valence iron,SO4-·,HO·,and other active substances.
