On the Mechanism of Influences on College Students'Engagement in Major Learning Based on Triadic Reciprocal Determinism

Abstract

Based on triadic reciprocal determinism,a theoretical model for the influence mechanism on college students'major learning engagement is constructed.Furthermore,the effects and paths of each factor on major learning engagement are examined through structural equation modeling with a sample of 1,010 participants.The results show that the level of college students'major learning engagement is not high,with a relatively low level of emotional engagement;Individual factors and environmental factors both influence major learning engagement directly with the extent of their impact differed across the three dimensions in behavioral,cognitive,and emotional engagement;Major identification and career planning play a partial mediating effect on the relations between educational environment perception and major learning engage-ment;Meanwhile,the chained mediation formed by major identification and career planning is also an important pathway by which the educational environment perception affects major learning engagement.Therefore,to enhance the level of ma-jor learning engagement among college students,it is necessary not only to focus on emotional incentives and strengthen stu-dents'major identification,but also implement tiered and progressive vocational education to guide students in maintain-ing moderate career expectations.Additionally,colleges and universities need to optimize the educational environment and improve the teaching quality assurance system to meet students'academic needs.
