Effects of Cotton-Peanut Intercropping and Rotation Patterns on Photosynthetic Physiological Characteristics and Yield Traits

Abstract
Understanding the mechanisms by which cotton-peanut intercropping and relayintercrop-ping systems affect peanut photosynthetic physiology and yield traits is crucial for optimizing produc-tivity and efficiency in such systems.This study investigated two planting patterns:cotton-peanut in-tercropping and cotton-peanut rotation.Measurements were taken at the flowering,pod-setting,matu-rity,and harvest stages of peanut to assess plant growth parameters,dry matter accumulation and dis-tribution,photosynthetic traits,as well as post-harvest yield and quality.The results showed that 1.In the intercropping and rotation systems,the 2∶2 planting pattern led to excessive peanut growth and lodging due to dense cotton planting,negatively impacting nutrient accumulation.In contrast,the 2∶4 pattern exhibited yield and quality,followed by the 2∶6 pattern.These results suggest that an appro-priate planting ratio can significantly enhance growth and yield.Regarding the photosynthetic re-sponse,in the cotton-peanut intercropping system,middle-row peanuts demonstrated superior leaf are-a,net photosynthetic rate,stomatal conductance,and transpiration rate compared to edge-row peanuts,following the order:middle row>edge row 2>edge row 1.The 2∶4 and 2∶6 configurations exhib-ited significantly better photosynthetic performance than the 2∶2 configuration,highlighting the ad-vantages of the middle-row layout and 2∶4 planting ratio.Compared to the traditional 2∶2 pattern,both 2∶4 and 2∶6 relay cropping models demonstrated significant improvements in physiological in-dicators and yield traits.These improved configurations not only enhanced growth,yield,and quality of peanuts but also more effectively promoted photosynthesis and energy conversion.Therefore,the 2∶4 and 2∶6 planting ratios are recommended as primary rotation models for wider adoption.关键词
