Abstract

This study investigates the effects of various amendment materials on the physical and chemical properties of saline-alkali soil,as well as their impact on maize physiology in Inner Mongolia.The study aims to to establish a theoretical foundation for enhancing maize production in this region.The experiment was conducted in Wayao Village,Tumed Right Banner,Inner Mongolia,from 2022 to 2023.The types and dosages of the improved materials used were desulfurization gypsum(DG)at 15 000 kg/hm2,a new soil amendment(NSA)at 15 000 kg/hm2,and bio-organic fertilizer(BO)at 7 500 kg/hm2.This experiment assessed changes in soil bulk density,porosity,pH,and total salt con-tent in the 0-40 cm layer,using a control group(CK)without amendments,and evaluated the effects of various material inputs on maize photosynthesis and yield.The results indicated that the soil bulk density,soil porosity,and pH value could be effectively reduced by the three improved materials.The total salt content in the 0-40 cm soil layer significantly decreased by 48.50%with DG treatment over two consecutive years,while net photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll SPAD value increased with BO treatment.Furthermore,maize grain yield increased by 57.25%with NSA treatment and by 46.18%with BO treatment.The average economic benefits over the two-year period were as follows:BO(2 257.53 yuan/hm2)>DG(1 740.00 yuan/hm2)>NSA(—1 469.19 yuan/hm2).In conclusion,DG treatment improves soil structure,decreases pH in the 20-40 cm layer,and reduces salt content in the 0-40 cm layer,while BO treatment enhances maize's net photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll con-tent,significantly increasing grain yield and economic benefits.Therefore,DG and BO can be employed to improve the physical and chemical properties of moderate to severe saline-alkali soils in Inner Mon-golia,thereby promoting the growth and development of maize.
