Abstract

Different spatial rainfall interpolation methods can lead to variations in areal rainfall estima-tion,consequently affecting the accuracy of flood forecasting.To investigate the impact of rainfall magni-tude and spatial distribution inhomogeneity on interpolation accuracy,we selected 10 typical rainfall e-vents each of light rain,moderate rain,heavy rain and rainstorm based on the daily rainfall data from 2015 to 2023 in Lianshui Basin,Jiangxi Province.Based on the inhomogeneity analysis of each event,spatial interpolation was performed using inverse distance weighting(IDW),ordinary Kriging(OK),and spline function(SF)methods.The influences of rainfall magnitude and spatial distribution inhomo-geneity on the interpolation results were then comparatively analyzed.The results indicate that as the rainfall magnitude increases,the degree of spatial rainfall inhomogeneity generally showed a decreasing trend.Under light rain,heavy rain,and rainstorm conditions,IDW demonstrated the best performance;while under moderate rain conditions,OK achieved higher interpolation accuracy.The interpolation accu-racy of all three methods improved as the spatial inhomogeneity of rainfall decreased.When the rainfall variation coefficient(Cv)is less than 0.3,IDW is recommended.Conversely,when Cv is greater than 0.3,OK is suggested for interpolation.
