Abstract

In allusion to the problem that the traditional low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy(LEACH)protocol in radio frequency energy harvesting wireless sensor networks(RF-EHWSN)does not consider the remaining energy and communication distance of nodes in the cluster head selection stage,resulting in high node energy consumption and shortening the network life,as well as the unbalanced energy consumption caused by single-hop data transmission in the steady-state phase,an energy-adaptive clustering and multi-hop routing protocol is proposed.In this protocol,distance and energy factors are incorporated during the cluster formation phase to optimize the cluster head selection process.In the steady-state phase,inter-cluster multi-hop routing is employed,where cluster heads can utilize a cost function to identify relay routing nodes,effectively reducing energy consumption during data transmission.In comparison with the LEACH and LEACH-C protocols,the proposed protocol can extend the time until the first node death by 344.44%and 105.13%respectively,and the time until all 0 nodes die by 86.44%and 23.53%,respectively.The network energy consumption is reduced by approximately 23.53%and 22.00%,while the throughput is increased by 212.90%and 18.52%,respectively.The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed protocol can significantly prolong network lifespan,balance energy consumption,and enhance network throughput.
