Effects of rumen derived live Pichia kudriavzevii culture on rumen fermentation and degradation rate of feed nutrients in dairy buffaloes

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of rumen derived live Pichia kudriavzevii(YPK)culture on rumen fermentation and feed nutrient degradation characteristics in dairy buffalo.Six Murrah buffaloes with permanent rumen fistula were used in this study.The six buffaloes were randomly assigned into two groups;the control group was fed with the basal diet,while the treatment group was fed with the basal diet supplemented with YPK bacterial solution at a dose of 4 × 1011 CFU/d per head.Then,the rumen volatile fatty acids profile in the buffaloes was measured.A nylon bag method was used to evaluate the degradation characteristics of feed dry matter(DM),crude protein(CP),neutral detergent fiber(NDF),and acidic detergent fiber(ADF)in the rumen of the animals at different time points(2,4,8,12,24,48,72 hours post the beginning of the test).The results showed that YPK significantly increased the concentration of acetic acid(P<0.001),propionic acid(P=0.002),and total volatile fatty acids(P<0.001)in the rumen of the buffaloes;YPK significantly increased their rumen degradation rates of feed DM(P<0.001),CP(P=0.044),NDF(P<0.001),and ADF(P<0.001).In conclusion,YPK significantly increased the rumen fermentation and the degradation rate of feed nutrients in dairy buffaloes.YPK has the potential to be a func-tional probiotic for ruminants.关键词
