摘要
Abstract
In the late 19th century, the United States entered the Progressive Era,a period characterized by rapid urbanization and industrialization that demonstrated the nation's strong vitality and creativity. However, despite the economic prosperity, the country's road infrastructure lagged significantly. To address poor road conditions and stimulate rural development,a group of cyclists spearheaded the"Good Roads Movement",which aimed to improve the substandard road network nationwide. This movement was a tangible example of progressive reform at a local level. This paper traces the history of this movement and explores the improvement of highways from the viewpoint of diverse social groups. It also analyses the movement's contribution to the construction of the US road system by examining its impact on education, trade and other sectors. The paper aims to provide a new perspective on the development of America's modern road system.关键词
