Semantic Communication for 6G:Theoretical Foundations,Key Technologies,and Future Applications

Abstract
Traditional communication systems are approaching fundamental performance limits,calling for a paradigm shift in the 6G era.Semantic communication,which emphasizes the extraction and transmission of meaning rather than raw data,has emerged as a key enabler for enhancing communication efficiency and intelligent interaction.Grounded in a well-established theoretical framework,its evolution is supported by advances in semantic encoding and decoding powered by artificial intelligence,knowledge graphs,multimodal information fusion,and resource optimization.These capabilities offer unique advantages for emerging architectures in scenarios such as intelligent internet of things and the metaverse.Despite its promise,semantic communication faces critical challenges in semantiac extraction accuracy,cross-modal understanding,and privacy preservation.Future research directions include quantum-aware semantic processing,green semantic architectures,cognition-inspired mechanisms,and explainable models.These directions are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing semantic communication as a foundational component of 6G and the broader intelligent information society.关键词
