Evaluation of the Therapeutic Effect of Chlortetracycline on Lamb Diarrhea Caused by Escherichia coli

Abstract
To evaluate the sensitivity of Escherichia coli from sheep to chlortetracycline and the therapeutic effect of chlortetracycline premix on lamb diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli,in this study,fecal samples of lamb diarrhea were collected from Guangdong province,Hebei province,Inner Mongolia autonomous region to isolate Escherichia coli and conduct the sensitivity tests of chlortetracycline and oxytetracycline.Meanwhile,by establishing an artificial infection model of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli(ETEC)K99 diarrhea in lambs,60 lambs were randomly divided into 6 groups:healthy control group,infection control group,control drug group(oxytetracycline tablets,25 mg/kg BW),and test drug(chlortetracycline premix)low-dose group(12.5 mg/kg BW),medium-dose group(25 mg/kg BW),and high-dose group(50 mg/kg BW),and the clinical efficacy of the chlortetracycline premix was evaluated using clinical symptoms,fecal character scores,effective rate and cure rate as indicators.The results showed as follows:①124 strains of lamb diarrhea E.coli were isolated from sheep farms in Guangdong province,Hebei province,Inner Mongolia autonomous region.The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)of chlortetracycline for the isolates from the three regions were mainly concentrated between 4 and 16µg/mL.The MIC of oxytetracycline for the iso-lates from Guangdong province and Inner Mongolia autonmous region were mainly concentrated between 8 and 64 µg/mL,and the MIC for the isolates from Hebei province were mainly distributed between 32 and 128µg/mL.The resistance rates of E.coli isolated from clinically diarrheic lambs in sheep farms in Guangdong province,Hebei pro-vince and Inner Mongolia autonmous region to chlortetracycline were 27.1%,39.5%and 37.5%respectively,and the resistance rates to oxytetracycline were 34.3%,42.1%and 25.0%respectively.②The pharmacodynamic experiment showed that the cure rates of the medium-dose and high-dose groups of the test drug and the control drug group were significantly higher than those of the infected control group(P<0.05).The effective rate of each drug adminis-tration group was also significantly higher than that of the infected control group(P<0.05).In addition,the feed-to-meat ratio and average weight gain of each drug administration group were significantly better than those of the in-fected control group(P<0.05),and the intestinal mucosal tissue recovered well 14 days after drug administration.The results indicate that the chlortetracycline premix,administered at a dose of 25 mg/kg BW(calculated as chlortet-racycline)once a day for 5 consecutive days,has a good therapeutic effect on lamb colibacillosis diarrhea.关键词
