Examining the Reliability and Validity of the Parental Response to Failure Questionnaire among Parents of Chinese Students

Abstract
Objective:To revise the parental response to failure(PRF)questionnaire and examine its reliability and va-lidity among Chinese parents of secondary school students.Methods:A total of 3,448 parents completed the revised Chi-nese version of the PRF,along with the growth mindset scale,failure beliefs scale,and socialization goals scale,to assess criterion-related validity.Results:①The correlation between items and the total score ranged from 0.50 to 0.70;②Explor-atory factor analysis showed that the Chinese version of the PRF consisted of two factors,accounting for 74.20%of the total variance;③Confirmatory factor analysis indicated good construct validity:CFI=0.98,TLI=0.98,RMSEA=0.06,SRMR=0.04;Multiple group analysis indicated full strict invariance across parental roles;④The Cronbach's alpha coefficients of the person response to failure subscale and the process response to failure subscale were 0.80 and 0.92,respectively;⑤Person response to failure was significantly negatively correlated with growth mindset and positive failure mindset,while process response to failure was positively associated with positive failure mindset and socialization goals.Conclusion:The revised Chinese version of the parental response to failure questionnaire demonstrates good reliability and validity and is suitable for use among parents of Chinese secondary school students.关键词
