Reliability and Validity of the School Refusal Evaluation Scale among Chinese Middle School Students

Abstract
Objective:Assessing reliability,validity,and measurement invariance of the school refusal evaluation scale(SCREEN)among middle school students in China to provide a scientific tool for school refusal screening.Methods:A total of 1445 middle school students completed the Chinese version of SCREEN.Structural validity,criterion validity,internal consistency reliability,cross-grade and cross-gender measurement invariance of the questionnaire were examined.Re-sults:(1)The absolute values of item-total correlations ranged from 0.64 to 0.88,and the item discrimination was good.(2)Confirmatory factor analysis revealed acceptable fit for the original four-factor structure of the scale:x2/df=5.72,RMSEA=0.06,CFI=0.93,TLI=0.92,SRMR=0.04,with factor loadings ranging from 0.34 to 0.86 for individual items.(3)The total score and subscale scores of the SCREEN were significantly negatively correlated with the total score and subscale scores of the school engagement scale,and positively correlated with score of the GAD-7 anxiety scale,indicating good criterion va-lidity.(4)The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for total scale was 0.92,while the coefficients for the subscales ranged from 0.64 to 0.87.(5)Tests of measurement invariance indicated strict invariance across grades and genders.Conclusion:SCREEN exhibits good reliability and validity among middle school students in China,serving as a scientific tool for screen-ing school refusal.关键词
