Summary of the best evidence for self-management education in elderly with type 2 diabetes

Abstract
Objective To summarize the best evidence related to self-management education in elderly patients with type 2 dia-betes mellitus(T2DM),to provide a valuable reference for clinical practice.Methods According to the"6S"pyramid model,we sys-tematically searched for evidence from domestic and foreign websites and databases related to self-management education for elderly T2DM patients,including guidelines,systematic reviews,evidence summaries,and expert consensus.The search covered literature published within the last 5 years(from September 9,2020 to September 9,2024).Four researchers trained in evidence-based medi-cine screened the literature,evaluated its quality,and extracted evidence through a comprehensive assessment.Results A total of 16 studies were included,consisting of 8 guidelines,6 systematic reviews,and 2 expert consensus statements.Through a comprehensive analysis of five core themes-including effective assessment and goal setting,lifestyle modification,self-management behaviours,acqui-ring relevant skills,complication prevention and psychological well-being 25 key pieces of evidence were identified.Conclusion This study summarizes the best evidence on self-management education for elderly T2DM patients and provides evidence-based rec-ommendations to support healthcare professionals in guiding this population to implement personalized self-management strate-gies.关键词
