Field Construction and Subject Embedding:Mechanisms for the Realization of Public Service Co-Production in the Digital Age

Abstract
The rapid development of digital technologies has reconfigured the underlying logic of public service delivery,shifting it from a government-led model to co-production..However,existing research little ex-plores how digital technologies facilitate public participation in this process.Employing a field-building—actor-embedding analytical framework,this paper systematically explains the realization mechanisms of public serv-ice co-production in the digital era,drawing on cases such as Ant Forest,the Wenming Bangbang Code,Guangzhou Neighbours,Time Bank,and Snap-and-Report.The findings show that field building reshapes in-teractive spaces and rules through technological and institutional innovation,providing inclusive platforms for en-gagement.Actor embedding,in turn,facilitates role transformation and relational ties through diverse participa-tion models,enabling deep collaboration within digital fields.In essence,the mutual reinforcement between field building and actor embedding creates a dynamically adaptive ecosystem for public service co-production.This perspective goes beyond the unidirectional accounts of traditional co-production theories and offers a co-crea-tion-oriented dual analytical path.关键词
