Distribution characteristics and influencing factors of astigmatism in Uyghur children and adolescents in Yecheng County,Xinjiang

Abstract
Objective To investigate the prevalence of astigmatism,astigmatism types and related influencing factors in uyghur children and adolescents aged 6~18 years in Yeceng County,Xinjiang.Methods In a cross-sectional study,a total of 79577 uyghur students aged 6 to 18 years from Yecheng County,Xinjiang,underwent comprehensive vision screening.The rest is oblique astigmatism.The risk factors related to astigmatism were determined by Logistics regres-sion analysis.Results Among 79577 students(male 49.4%)from 6 to 18 years old,19146 students were found to have astigmatism(24.1%),most of them were normal astigmatism(60.8%),and 667 students were highly astigmatism(0.8%).There were statistically significant differences in astigmatism prevalence among different age groups,naked eye vision and refractive state(P<0.001).The prevalence of astigmatism increased with the increase of age.The prevalence of astigmatism in poor vision(naked vision<5.0)was higher than that in normal vision(naked vision≥5.0),and the prev-alence of astigmatism in emmetropia(-0.50D≤SE≤0.50D),hyperopia(SE>0.50D)and myopia(SE<-0.50D)was higher than in emmetropia(-0.50D≤SE≤0.50D).Logistics regression analysis shows that age,male students,poor vision,myopia and farsightedness are all influential factors of astigmatism.Conclusion The prevalence of astigmatism in Uyghur children and adolescents in Yecheng County of Xinjiang is 24.1%,and the prevalence of high astigmatism is 0.8%,and the astigmatism is mainly normal astigmatism(60.8%).Age,male sex,poor vision,myopia,and hypero-pia were associated with an increased risk of astigmatism.关键词
